Autumn Winter 2020
This collection is inspired by the philosophy of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. Founded in 1920 the Leach Pottery, St Ives, is among the most respected and influential potteries in the world. Over the last hundred years it has forged the shape of Studio Pottery in the UK and beyond. Scores of potters, students and apprentices, from across the world have come to the Leach Pottery to train, creating a uniquely international environment in the heart of Cornwall.
Referencing this beautiful exchange of East meets West, the collection is a juxtaposition of British Naval Military clothing deconstructed and simplified with the functions of traditional Eastern attire.
Garments reference both tactical and parade Naval Military wear, Japanese belted kimono wraps and traditional Cornish mariner garments, whilst fabrics emulate the rich textural material approach of The Leach Pottery of St Ives.
Inspiration also comes from the works of other international furniture, architecture and contemporary artists practising in Britain, such as Robin Day, Berthold Lubetkin and Rachel Whiteread.
